Chicago Skies

When the light of the heavens have been denied,
And all our sins have multiplied,
The only stars that will remain,
Are landing lights on airplanes.

Hello,
It is too bad that the lighting systems in Chicago, and every other city for that matter, cannot be made to reduce glare and light pollution. The technology is out there to substantially reduce light pollution, and many times the light only needs to be adjusted. If the lights were properly adjusted, one would be able to see 1st and 2nd magnitude stars in the heart of Chicago. I belong to our astronomy club, and we ordered lights that reduce light pollution and glare by about 80%, they were not that much more expensive than regular lights, but they need to be properly installed. "Earth Hour" is going to be celebrated in Illinois on March 28th, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, which is an effort to reduce light pollution so people may see the stars for the first time in urban areas and improve the view for those in rural areas. Here is the link to an article:

Have a good day!
